Memento mori

Portraits, 8 pieces, 30x30 cm, mixed media on canvas, 2015

Nothing is absolute. Everything changes, everything moves, everything revolves, everything flies and goes away.
— Frida Kahlo

Death is an important aspect of all cultures, and even more so in the Mexican and pre-hispanic cultures, where it is greatly acknowledged and celebrated.

The memory and its celebration composes the rituals that surround the death culture, and through this series of portraits I want to celebrate the memory of these outstanding Mexican artists and historical figures. At the same time, my exploration revolves around the message that everything is here for a brief moment in time, and that Life is temporary. Therefore, the name of this series: Memento mori. Here, the invisible becomes visible due to the lack of light, effect I obtained by using fluorescent acrylic paint.
