"The most beautiful thing we can experience is the mysterious." - Albert Einstein
Hello,
Last Friday (12/9) I participated to the opening show of Daniel Martin Diaz's exhibition at Oxholm Gallery, in Nørrebro, where I had the pleasure to meet the artist and his wife.
I was highly impressed by his work, by the atmosphere that his drawings were creating at the first glance and the immediate transposition to other time and space...more mysterious, more mystical and full of symbols. In the moment when you were getting closer to the drawings another Universe was revealed, populated by rich details, lines, shapes, systems, diagrams and matrixes, universal structures and biological elements, all combined with such mastery and dedication that you couldn't resist to study them for a while. The aesthetics of his art is inspired by the drawings that accompany the scientific and philosophical theories, usually describing diagrams, systems and structures, human anatomy; being interested in self awareness, philosophy, cellular automata, phase transitions, time travel, mystical behaviours at atomic and sub-atomic levels, consciousness, he gives a self interpretation of the symbols and theories and creates this beautiful symbolistic imagery.

“Drawing from old masters, Jan van Eyck, Pieter Bruegal, and Hieronymus Bosch, both in subject matter and in the ancient egg tempera and resin oil painting style, Diaz’s depictions have a sincerity that exposes a seemingly endless devotion to reveal a higher meaning through painstaking craftsmanship. His use of a limited pallet on distressed wood, handmade wooden frames, and expressive use of Latin text allows Diaz’s images to thrust us into another time and place, as though resurrecting relics from the past. Beneath the stained-glass-look and tortured faces lies a depth and richness of an otherworldly spiritual dimension. In this latest series of paintings, drawings and prints, Diaz delves into the supernatural realm and summons adaptations of end time prophecies and phenomenal consciousness.
Diaz’s artwork has been exhibited in over 60 solo and group exhibitions in 17 states, and 12 countries, including three international touring exhibitions, DMD has been published in numerous magazine and book publications, and has been acquired for the permanent collections of 12 art museums worldwide.

Having the chance to have a brief discussion with Daniel and his wife Paula, I discovered an interesting man, passionate about his work and his involvement with other artistic areas such as public art and music. Together with his beautiful and mysterious wife they have a music project called "Crystal Radio" that "sounds like a haunted western about ghosts and dreams, where Ennio Morricone meets David Lynch", as Paula said.
